The FIVB (the International Governing body for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball) asked Emakina to create a real LIVE experience for fans during the Volleyball World Championship 2014.
Emakina launched two new versions of the website and a mobile iOS application with live comments, live scoring, live photos and live statistics following the editorial schedule and responding to millions of TV and internet audience.
Emakina imagined and created a digital ecosystem for the FIVB, with a made-to-measure concept and design for two websites.
A first covered the women’s championships in Italy, a second the men’s event in Poland.
Using the same architecture, the websites were a true live hub for the happenings, sharing exciting and visually striking pages with results, photos, comments and live statistics.
Every fan could live the moment through the tournament match centre, which featured outstanding live content adding incredible value to the overall volleyball coverage including live scoring and live courtside comments.
And the technically, most challenging part, “Live updates” delivered through interaction with custom built systems keep the fans updated ‘ up to the minute’.
We designed different interfaces and features to enable fans and technical staff to follow and give feedback on the game in real time.
Integration of news, social media and an innovative fan zone, with a social wall and panoramic images increased the immersive effect of the website.
From anywhere, for the first time, volleyball fans could feel the game on their mobile, follow the score with comments but also with stats, photos and then videos.
The FIVB saw an impressive increase in fan engagement and interaction.
In addition to these two sites, Emakina launched an iOS application.
Furthermore, the agency is currently redesigning the organizations’ overarching site FIVB.org.
“Emakina was a very good partner and very creative. Thanks to their digital strategy, we reached impressive results” said Dr. Ary S. Graça FIVB President.
The websites of the Volleyball World Championship in Poland and Italy reached 9 million of sessions with 4 million of users and 29 million of page views. 50 000 iOS App were downloaded and the websites achieved the biggest peak of 17 000 active users.
Emakina won a Silver Award for the‘Best Optimised Website’ at the Mixx Award in Brussels last week.
This project received positive feedback globally; other steps will follow to strengthen the audience and player’s online experience, further creating the digital ecosystem of the FIVB. To be continued…
